When I add my roaster to Bluetooth, it connects and then disconnects
Answer: This is correct, you are only adding your roaster to available devices on your computer, you are not yet connecting to it. The roaster will establish a quick connection to computer and then disconnects. It is now an available device, but will not actually connect to the computer until Artisan requests a connection. To connect, open artisan and perform initial setup steps.
Artisan will not control my heating elements, but everything else seems to be working
If your roaster is connected to Artisan, the drum is working, fans are working, but the heating elements do not. Ensure the following:
- Are the heating elements installed? M2, M6, and M10 the heating elements need to be installed according to getting started page.
- Set the SV or Set Value (charge temperature) to desired temp. I would recommend 170-180 C to begin with.
- Set the burner percentage to 100%. This is not the same as Set Value.
- Ensure to click the "Start Heating" button.
NOTE: if possibly you roasted the day prior, but when you click start heating again, it does not heat up. Slide the SV down, release, slide back up to desired temp and release. All roasters will default to 0 degrees, and the temperature will need to be resent to the roaster. This is a safety feature built into Artisan.
Artisan wants to take control of my roaster, I cant set the drum speed, temperature, etc.
There are a few different reasons why , see multiple possibilities below. Artisan is set up for automation, and if you are not wanting automated roasts, will need to ensure to change the following. Usually checking settings on both options below.
Option 1: Artisan can utilize "Background" curves. If you have a background curve loaded, it is going to assume that you are wanting the software to playback the events in that curve. One way to have a background loaded as a reference, but to not have Artisan follow it is to go to Roast -> Background and uncheck "Playback Events". Alternatively you can click "Delete" to completely remove the background from Artisan, but it does not delete the .alog file on your computer.

Option 2:
The Following settings are related to the Set Value. If you pull down the slider for SV, and it continues to want to adjust back to a different value, access the PID control options by clicking the "Control" button, and changing the set value drop down from "Background" to "Manual".
Additionally I would recommend unchecking "Start PID on Charge" as it will continue to control the set value afterwards. Great option for automation. I would also click the "off" button to ensure the PID is off.

Roaster is wanting to Automatically "Drop" my beans
In Artisan, there is an auto drop function that is used in batch roasting. The roaster will receive a "drop" command, and the burners will turn off. This allows them to do batch roasting consistently.
Why is this happening? With this setting turned on, the roaster is either dropping at the SV given, or if it is using a background for drop, it is dropping at the time and temp given for the drop on the graph.
To Avoid this go to Roast -> Background and uncheck "Playback DROP".
Also in reference to the picture below, this is a note, not a setting change, but you can see the word "DROP" on the graph. If this box was checked, the roaster would automatically drop at 9:24, approx. 197.8 degrees.

MacBook Air Wont Connect
Artisan and MacBook air do not work well together. While the roaster will connect and roast one time, you will have to reconfigure the roaster each time. IE, add new roaster like the first time you set up. This is an Artisan/MacBook Air issue. It will do this to non Kaleido roasters as well. We recommend purchasing an inexpensive Windows laptop.
